Best Cleaning Hacks
As the seasons change, it’s nice to do a refresh and rejuvenation of your home—this usually requires a dreaded deep cleaning, though. You’ve got your essential products, like disinfectants, floor cleaner, glass cleaner, and multi-surface concentrations, now all you need is motivation. Cleaning can be a draining task, but with these 7 cleaning hacks, you will get it done in no time (and you might actually be excited to clean):
1. Use vinegar to unclog faucet heads
Is your faucet just not running the way it used to? It might be clogged or packed with build-up. Fill a plastic bag with vinegar, pull the bag over the faucet head, and use an elastic band to secure it in place. Leave for 30 minutes to an hour, and you’ll notice a ton of debris floating in the vinegar. Once removed, let the faucet run for 30 seconds to get rid of any extra gunk and finish off with a wipe down.
2. Pour some dish soap down the drain
Dish soap is built to cut through grease, and if your drain isn’t draining properly, there might be an accumulation of grease from your pots and pans. Simply squirt a bit of dish soap down the drain and run some hot water—your drain should drain much faster.
3. Purchase a steam cleaner
Steam cleaners make cleaning a snap, not to mention they’re a fun tool to use. Steam cleaners are able to clean much deeper than surface cleaning, and they can get into all of those hard to reach nooks and crannies that you usually wouldn’t be able to get to. The vapor loosens dirt and allergens, giving your space a much needed thorough clean.
4. Polish stainless steel sinks with flour
If you have a stainless steel sink, you’ll want to try this hack. Wash and dry your sink, then sprinkle the whole surface of it with flour, and use a sponge to buff it out—your sink will sparkle like never before!
5. Use rubber gloves to clean up pet hair
Pet hair clings to everything, and it’s hard to find a product that can actually remove it. Well, you don’t have to look further than your cleaning cabinet—chances are you’ve already got this one. Grab those rubber gloves and rub it over the surface you need the hair removed from, you’ll be shocked at how easily the gloves can gather the hair.
6. Buff scratched dishes with cream of tartar
Scratched dishes can ruin the look of your table setting, so if you’ve got this problem, try this hack. By buffing your dishes with cream of tartar and a wet dish cloth, letting your dish sit for a minute or two, and washing it with soap and water, you’ll reveal a brand-new looking plate.
7. Set a timer
If you still find it challenging to get your cleaning done, the easiest way to make progress is by setting a timer for whatever you can spare, whether that’s 10 minutes or 30 minutes, and then seeing what you can get done in that period of time. You’ll be surprised with how much you accomplish, and if you section off even just 30 minutes a day to cleaning, you’ll easily check off all of the tasks on your to-do list.
